Fairhaven recently supplied a high specification AHU for a new high risk production line at a local cheese processing facility in Co. Tyrone, Northern Ireland. Working in conjunction with our key customer Powertech Refrigeration, we were involved in the project from concept through to commissioning.
The brief for the project required the system to deliver the following conditions:
- 10Pa positive pressurisation in the high risk room relative to low care
- HEPA grade filtration of the supply air
- Temperature control to 12 deg C (dry bulb) in the high risk space
- Adequate fresh air for occupants during production
- Full fresh air and extract to atmosphere during wash down
Fairhaven have been involved in the design of many high pressure HVAC systems for food production in our long history. We use a tried and tested design approach to ensure reliable pressure delta between high and low care whilst minimising the loss of conditioned, filtered air to atmosphere or other factory areas. Our calculations carefully consider internal, external and ventilation heat & moisture gains to ensure that the installed capacity of the cooling coils will be able to maintain required room conditions in the design summer outdoor ambient conditions.
Once the system concept design and AHU performance requirements had been determined, our technical team used Mandik’s proprietary “AHUman” software to prepare and refine the AHU design. AHUman gives full control to configure every aspect of the air handling unit layout and components, and allows our engineers to turn around fully bespoke unit selections and designs in a short timeframe without needing input from Mandik HQ in Czechia.
All Mandik units are fully Eurovent certified, and contrary to what some AHU manufacturers would have you believe, this doesn’t just mean that some of the components are individually Eurovent approved. Eurovent certification for Air Handling Units means validating the performance of the unit as a whole, and part of this certification process is to make sure that the design and selection software accurately predicts unit performance, giving all parties the assurance that the resulting AHU will “do what it says on the tin”.
Some of the standout features of the Mandik AHU on this project include:
- Powder coated casing with T2 TB1 thermal performance (Eurovent certified)
- H11 HEPA final filters
- Ziehl Abegg ER56 C-pro plug fans (supply and extract)
- Mixing box with motorised FAI, Exhaust & Recirc dampers
