The CONTRAFOIL PLUS contra-rotating fan from S&P UK Ventilation Systems truly addresses the requirement of DW/172 for a safe gas interlocked ventilation system while also meeting the commercial demands of the professional kitchen to keep working even after a fan failure. It also uses energy-saving 3 wire speed control, which consumes 30% less current than 2 wire systems for the same motor operating speed, and can be used at temperatures up to 70°C.
The fan, which is in fact two fans, runs like a normal fan but if at some point in the future there should be a problem with one of the fans, the remaining fan will switch to full speed, regardless of speed control setting. This provides sufficient ventilation (minimum 70% of full capacity) to keep the gas interlock valve open and allow cooking to continue while a service engineer is called to rectify the fault.
CONTRAFOIL PLUS is able to sense and detect many different kinds of fan failure and is capable of ‘learning’ the particulars of the fan and installation conditions by running through a manually triggered commissioning routine. This runs both fans at all the possible speed settings and stores the speeds of each fan independently for future reference. This learning function, therefore, provides a measured response to a range of common occurrences while ensuring there is no overreaction that causes the kitchen to close unnecessarily.
Another key feature of the CONTRAFOIL PLUS is the Xylan® coating that is applied to all internal and external surfaces (impellers, motors, mounting arms and casing), thereby reducing steam cleaning times and eliminating the need for harsh detergents.
